So basically I want to share how I create fun and educational projects with robots, in this case with Dash. What do you need to get those cool games of the shelf and useful and educational, engaging and fun? A social bunch of kids, 2 or more, and a project with no exact solution.
I like dash because it's really engaging for the kids. Here I'll start with simple fun projects that require Dash only, later I will discuss more complex projects.
So this project is good for any child age 5 and up, although at the age of 5, they will require some adult assistance.
The idea is - to help them own the project. Make it their own.
I assume of course they were enthusiastic about the new robot, played with it, programmed some games. So they know what it can do. Now this project challenge is to create a dance with Dash to their favorite song.
Let them choose a song, it could be from Just Dance Now, or any other song and dance they like. Then challenge them to adopt the dance to something Dash can do, withing his limited capabilities. Then, they need to program the dance, and dance with the robot.
Try it, dash can't walk sideways, so they will have to turn and walk. Dash can move his head, that's not a problem, yet he has no hands - so we can replace those with lights (which humans lack :-), he can twist and turn. See what you get.
The fun thing is, it's a process to get it right. Lot's of trial and error, lot's of learning, lot's of fun.
